Transport Scotland has signed a long-term deal with train builder Hitachi Rail Europe for 70 electric multiple unit trains which will operate on the soon-to-be-electrified Edinburgh-Glasgow route and other lines in central Scotland. The Scottish Government has guaranteed the use of the trains on Scotland’s rail network for at least 25 years and the deal also includes a ten-year maintenance agreement.
