The Welsh Government has awarded an initial contract for the controversial M4 Relief Road south of Newport. The award came as the High Court threw out a judicial review application against the Government’s decision to proceed with the scheme. 

The chosen ‘black route’ is opposed by Assembly Members of all political parties, including some in the governing Labour Party. Many favour a cheaper ‘blue route’.
