Cycle logistics is gaining traction as a means of delivering goods in urban areas across Europe. Rising fuel costs, concerns over air quality, congestion, parking fines, carbon reduction and road safety have combined to make the case for last-mile deliveries and first-mile collections to be made by bike, believes Paul Davison, principal consultant in AECOM’s Sustainable Freight and Logistics team.
At Cycle City Active City he will be looking at the resurgence in cycle logistics and discussing how the planning system and local, regional and national governments can encourage zero carbon deliveries through city centre freight strategies. Davison will offer successful examples from around the world that have benefitted from infrastructure investment, ‘soft’ measures and regulation.
Richard Armitage, co-founder of Manchester-based cycle logistics firm Wagl, will offer his insights on establishing a cycle logistics firm, outlining challenges and pitfalls. He will also draw on his experience of setting up the European Cycle Logistics Federation, with the assistance of the EU funded Cycle Logistics Ahead project, highlighting best practice across Europe and lessons for any prospective UK operations.
