DfT tests out new methods for compiling road traffic statistics

The DfT is reviewing if data from in-vehicle GPS, mobile phones, and even mileage data from MOT tests, can be used to produce estimates of road traffic volumes on Britain’s roads.

The Department believes such sources could be used to replace or supplement current manual and video-based traffic counts sources.
