Charges proposed to cut roadworks disruption

Roadworks contractors could be subject to new charges under DfT plans to reduce disruption to road traffic.

Under the proposals, which have been published for consultation, contractors would face charges for leaving works unattended at weekends and for leaving temporary traffic lights in place longer than necessary. The charges would cover works by highway authorities and utility companies.
