The Department for Transport gives £11m to build 1,000-space car park and a bus station

The DfT has allocated £11m to a project to build a new 1,000-space multi-storey car park and bus station in Lincoln, "helping to deliver jobs, growth and opportunity".

The £29m scheme is designed to improve city centre journeys and is expected to create up to 200 jobs and deliver an economic benefit of £9m a year. The plans follow the former transport secretary approving plans for a new eastern bypass. The Department said that the lack of a major city centre car park is "holding back local businesses".

The £11m is an allocation from the Local Growth Fund. The City of Lincoln Council is seeking further funding, providing £11m itself and the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership a further £2m.

Transport minister Andrew Jones said: "Better transport facilities don't just help people get around, they help them get on - connecting them to jobs and opportunities."
