Network Rail is launching a fresh round of consultation on the closure of more than 100 level crossings in East Anglia, proposals that have angered some local authorities and The Ramblers.  

The closures affect seven local authorities: Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Essex, Havering, Hertfordshire, Southend and Thurrock.

In all, Network Rail plans to close 116 crossings. The vast majority are foot crossings. 

A first round of consultation took place in June and a second round gets underway...
