The number of trips made by people in England continued to fall last year, according to the DfT’s National Travel Survey.
Average trip numbers recorded by survey participants fell to 914 – the lowest number since the NTS commenced as a continuous survey in 1972/73. Comparing 1972/73 with 2015 shows:
• average distance travelled has increased by 49%, from 4,476 miles to 6,649
• hours spent travelling has risen 4%, from 353 to 368
• the number of trips has fallen...
