The Government has pledged to complete the dualling of the A66 Trans-Pennine road between Penrith in Cumbria and Scotch Corner in North Yorkshire.
Much of the 49.5-mile road is already dualled but there remain six sections of single carriageway. The cases for upgrading the A66, and the A69 between Carlisle and Newcastle, are being explored in the DfT’s Northern Trans-Pennine routes strategic study.
