Bristol authorities braced for big rise in rail project costs

Councils in the Bristol area are exploring how to fill a funding gap in their MetroWest local rail enhancement plans.

Network Rail is expected to confirm this month a significant increase in the cost of MetroWest phase one, which will see the Portishead branch reopened, and enhanced local rail services on the Severn Beach and Bath to Bristol lines. The official estimated cost is currently £58.2m.
