DfT rules out Mersey toll waiver

The Government has ruled out allowing residents of Warrington and Cheshire West & Chester councils to use the new Mersey Gateway bridge and the Silver Jubilee Crossing for free because of concerns about costs and possible legal challenges.

The tolled Mersey Gateway Crossing will open this autumn. Tolls will also be introduced on the existing Silver Jubilee Bridge to help pay for the new bridge. Residents of Halton Council will be able to use both bridges for free under a deal part-funded by...
