A business case for a Very Light Rail (VLR) Innovation Centre and test track in Dudley should be finalised this spring.
The £28m centre would research and develop a new generation of lightweight train weighing less than one tonne per linear metre. “There is a lot of potential for VLR vehicles to be used on disused branch lines across the UK, many of which have been closed since the early 1960s,” says the centre’s website.
