Budget: Fears "May will put brakes on Crossrail 2" says London's Standard

The Chancellor's Budget tomorrow is "unlikely to mention" Crossrail 2, as it competes for funding commitments with HS3 amid reports that the Prime Minister wishes to favour northern cities, according to The Evening Standard

The London Mayor Sadiq Khan, writing in the same newspaper, last night pushed for "a strong and unequivocal statement of support" on the proposed new north-east to south-west London railway in Wednesday's Budget, whilst its political editor claimed the All-Party Parliamentary Group of London MPs has sought reassurances from the transport secretary. The newspaper says that these MPs fear that a push for HS3 jeopardises Crossrail 2's claim on funding.

It adds that the Chancellor "may unveil a pot of extra funding for transport," despite reports over the weekend that he will focus on "battening down the hatches" and putting aside funding to increasing spending post-Brexit, pre-General Election - suggesting any additional transport funds may not flow for two years.
