Mayors take transport powers

Elected mayors have taken charge of transport policy in six parts of England following last week’s local elections. 

Conservative candidates were elected to lead four combined authorities: Andy Street in the West Midlands; Ben Houchen in  Tees Valley; James Palmer in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough; and Tim Bowles in the West of England (Bristol, South Gloucestershire, and Bath & North East Somerset).
