Stepped cycle tracks should be the default provision for cyclists on busy streets, according to design guidance prepared by Oxfordshire County Council.
Presenting the guidance to councillors, Susan Halliwell, Oxfordshire’s director for planning and place, said stepped cycle tracks (see image) were safer for cyclists than on-road cycle lanes.
