Learner drivers should take compulsory lessons for rural roads as part of a graduated licensing system, says a road safety charity.
Brake says introducing learners to country road driving would reduce fatalities and serious injuries. In 2015, the last year for which statistics are available, 120 young drivers lost their lives in crashes – 80% of these occurring on rural roads, 16 % on urban roads and 4% on motorways.
