DfT’s digital rail pledge concerns TfGM

The Transpennine railway between Manchester, Leeds and York could use digital signalling to increase the line’s capacity without requiring costly infrastructure upgrades. 

Transport secretary Chris Grayling has asked Network Rail to put together a plan for embedding digital technology in the Transpennine upgrade. He has allocated an initial £5m of development funding to the work.
