Bridgend County Borough Council has drawn up a list of nine bus routes that could be withdrawn, after the authority decided to reduce its core budget for supported bus services from £318,000 to £130,000. Prior to an online consultation, officers will ask local bus operators whether any of the routes could be maintained commercially.
Routes proposed for withdrawal include early morning and evening services between Bridgend and the coastal town of Porthcawl. Their cost in 2018-19 is estimated at £43,496. They provide access to the regional hospital and serve “areas of major planned population and employment growth”, according to officers. No alternative public transport would be available.
