Zero tolerance call for speeders ‘impractical’

The UK’s roads policing chief has called for an end to the window of tolerance given to speeding motorists.

Under current practices, motorists usually only face prosecution for exceeding a speed limit by more than 10 per cent +2mph, e.g. exceeding 35mph in a 30mph area, or 79mph on a 70mph road.  

Anthony Bangham, the chief constable of West Mercia Police and road policing lead for the National Police Chiefs’ Council,  said the practice should change....
