Transport planners are calling on the Government to introduce a weight and distance-based charge for lorries, saying it would help ensure that they paid more of their external costs.
Responding to the DfT’s consultation on the future of the existing HGV levy (LTT24 Nov 17), the Transport Planning Society says studies have shown there are “significant external costs in relation to HGVs, which are not currently reflected in the cost to road freight users”.
