Keeping the West Midlands Moving

27 April 2018

Along with the Department for Transport, the Transport Systems Catapult and Immense Simulations, TfWM has been working on the Keeping The West Midlands Moving initiative, which is creating a large, multi-agent model of the West Midlands linked to traveller personas, in order to understand better how individual groups of travellers are likely to respond to a range of disruption scenarios. The aim is to be more proactive in terms of interventions to manage construction and any necessary communications. ‘This is a proof-of-concept project is currently in its final stages, and with outcomes that are looking really interesting and positive,’ says Waters. 'Alongside new economic and persona-based insights developed with TSCat, the project has involved Immense Simulations working with TfWM’s existing suppliers Mott McDonald to take data from the existing PRISM model and to ‘mash in’ other data and response insights. It’s been a very valuable learning experience with some really interesting results.’

Steve Close and Simon Young from the Transport Systems Catapult will be outlining this project, and its outcomes to date, at Modelling World 2018 in June
