Brighton & Hove’s public bikeshare scheme saw 213,188 rentals in the nine months between launch on 1 September 2017 and the end of May, according to the city council. The scheme, operated by Hourbike, features 450 bikes and 51 hubs and has attracted 35,482 subscribers. An underspend in the scheme capital costs will allow the scheme is to be expanded to the west with a further ten hubs and 120 ‘e-bike ready’ bikes. Capital costs of the scheme were funded by £1.16m of Local Growth Fund from the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership and £290,000 of the council’s own local transport plan funding. Opportunities to expand the scheme to the north and east are also being explored.
