Transport for the West Midlands has launched a procurement for 18 new trams, with the option to purchase a further 32. The contract could take the fleet up from 21 to 71. Additional vehicles are needed to provide services on the proposed extensions to the Metro network. A supplier should be appointed around May next year, with the first new trams expected in service by summer 2021. The trams will have battery power for non-electrified route sections....
