York approves bus-based CAZ despite operator opposition

Story updated at 16.30 Tuesday 12 February after the council confirmed to LTT that it is still the intention that operators will not have to fund any of the anticipated £1.64m cost of retrofit work.

Councillors in York have approved the introduction of a bus-based clean air zone (CAZ) in January 2020. 

The CAZ, covering the city centre and inner ring road, will require buses to be Euro VI or better, except those on low frequency routes (LTT 02 Feb 18).
