The first of a huge delivery of new trains for the Northern franchise should finally enter service on 1 July, ending months of delay.
New diesel and electric multiple units (DMU/EMU) manufactured by Spanish firm CAF will replace existing Sprinter and Pacer DMUs, which date from the 1980s.
In all, Northern has ordered 101 trains: 12 x four-car EMUs, 31 x three-car EMUs, 25 x two-car DMUs, and 33 x three-car DMUs.
