The Government has tabled legislation committing the UK to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
The draft Statutory Instrument to amend the Climate Change Act 2008 was laid in Parliament last week. It toughens the Act’s target from an 80 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 against 1990 levels to a 100 per cent reduction. The UK’s share of international aviation and shipping emissions are excluded.
