Transport spending ‘biased against roads’

The Government should allocate more of its transport spend to roads and less to rail, to reflect road transport’s much greater economic importance, according to a report by the Alliance of British Drivers.

“Railways, carrying less than five per cent of UK annual passenger miles, get 50 per cent of the transport spend. Strategic roads, carrying nearly 60 per cent, get about 14 per cent. How is that equitable –  and more to the point – how is it even economically...
