MPs press DfT on moving traffic offence powers

The House of Commons transport committee has asked transport secretary Grant Shapps to clarify the Government’s position on giving English councils outside London the power to enforce moving traffic offences.

Local authorities in England have long campaigned for the Government to implement part 6 of the Traffic Management Act 2004, which would allow civil enforcement of offences such as blocking yellow box junctions. The powers are already available to authorities in London.
