Greater Manchester’s new public bike hire scheme will be a dock-based operation, Transport for Greater Manchester has confirmed. TfGM said a docked system would “increase security and reliability” and reflected lessons learnt from Mobike’s failed dockless operation in the conurbation and similar schemes elsewhere. TfGM will launch the tender for a design, build, operate and maintain contract for bike hire imminently. A phased approach will be taken to implementation, with the first phase focused on the regional centre (central Manchester/Salford) before roll-out across the conurbation
