Glasgow City Council is to commission a workplace parking levy (WPL) study using funding from the Scottish Government.
The £75,000 study will review the Nottingham scheme and work on levies by other authorities.
The work is being funded from a £1.15m Transport Scotland grant to support the city’s low emission zone (LEZ). Glasgow will allocate £155,000 to the city’s public bike hire scheme with six new docking stations, including at Glasgow Central rail station.
The city’s Co-Wheels car club will receive £220,000 to fund electrification. Eight electric vehicles will be based in the LEZ area, charging equipment will be installed in parking bays, and Co-Wheels will receive a first year subsidy for supplying the vehicles.
The largest portion of the grant, £600,000, will fund MOVA (Microprocessor Optimised Vehicle Actuation) at two road junctions.
Glasgow City Council has also allocated £3.47m of funding from Transport Scotland for low emission vehicles.
The funding will pay for 130 electric cars and vans plus electric vehicle charging infrastructure for the council, public and taxi operators.
The council will spend £805,000 converting 20 HGVs in its fleet to run on “hydrogen dual-fuel kits” (running on hydrogen and diesel).
It will also explore a demonstration of on full electric refuse collection vehicle.
To find out more about WPL schemes come to the Workplace Parking Levies & Clean Air Zones conference in Nottingham on 29 April.
