John Kemplen's witty criticisms (Letters, LTT 14 Apr) of my column last month deserve a reply, which I'll do in a later article. But this month the challenge is different - to weave together a commentary on recent transport decisions in Edinburgh and Glasgow, with a somewhat academic little piece of art history from the early 1900s.
