Plan for Northants unitaries progresses

Northamptonshire’s two new unitary authorities will be legally established next year, despite the cancellation of next month’s local elections. North and West Northamptonshire will replace the two-tier structure of Northamptonshire County Council and district/borough councils. Elections to the new authorities have been postponed until next May but Simon Clarke, minister for regional growth and local government, said: “Steps are in place to ensure that the current plan for the new authorities to the legally established in April 2021 can proceed.”
