Users may shun bus & rail for long spell

Covid-19 could have a long-term impact on public transport use, particularly if the virus remains a threat after the lockdown period ends. Officers told West Yorkshire Combined Authority this week that the area’s remaining bus and rail services, still running to provide a service for key workers, were carrying about ten per cent of their usual ridership. “The longer term impact on people’s willingness to use public transport, and consequential impact on the challenges of modal shift, is still to be determined,” they added.
