A Covid-19 rail recovery taskforce has been formed in Scotland involving Network Rail, Scot-Rail, Caledonian Sleeper and Transport Scotland. Scottish transport secretary Michael Matheson told MSPs that social distancing would have a huge impact on train capacity. “The way in which we manage passengers on and off trains will be greatly complicated by social distancing, so the capacity of rail services will be greatly reduced as a result. Detailed consideration is being given to plans for how we can manage that.” He envisaged there would be “a phased increase in rail service levels”.
