The DfT has awarded state-owned train operator London North Eastern Railway (LNER) a three-year direct award, with the option of a two-year extension, for intercity services on the East Coast Main Line between London King’s Cross and Yorkshire, the North East and Scotland. LNER took over East Coast services in 2018 from Virgin Trains East Coast. The company is owned and overseen by DfT public sector operator, DfT OLR Holdings Ltd.
