Two high-profile transport academics are to pursue work on transport and climate change under two-year fellowships.
The Foundation for Integrated Transport charity has appointed professors Phil Goodwin and John Whitelegg as its first two senior fellowships.
The overall theme of both fellowships is transport and climate change.
Goodwin is planning work on: the carbon effects of past and present roads programmes to develop a net zero-compliant roads strategy; road space reallocation arising from the Covid-19 pandemic; and providing technical advice and evidence to environmental transport activists, both in support of ‘sustainable’ policies and against ‘unsustainable’ ones.
Whitelegg’s proposed work includes a meta-review on measures and interventions with carbon dioxide reduction results; collaboration with research institutes including Wuppertal, Lund University, and Tyndall; and contacts with climate emergency centres in unitary and county councils.
