The main railway between Edinburgh and Glasgow will be closed for weeks after flooding damaged the tracks. Heavy rain last week damaged the Union Canal above the railway near Polmont, causing torrents of water to cascade across a 300 metre section of track, undermining embankments, washing away track and overhead electrification masts, and leaving trees strewn across the line. Network Rail said an initial assessment suggested it could take two months to reinstate the line. The closure affects Edinburgh-Glasgow Queen Street services via Falkirk High and services between Edinburgh and Stirling/Dunblane.
