The DfT has appointed the chief executive of the Campaign for Better Transport to head its new Acceleration Unit.
Darren Shirley (pictured) will lead the new team of non-government specialists to drive progress on key projects.
Shirley joined environmental public transport group the CBT in August 2018 from consumer magazine Which?. He succeeded Stephen Joseph.
The Acceleration Unit will be accountable to transport secretary Grant Shapps.
