In the past four years fewer than 700 on-street vehicle charging devices were installed using grants available to councils across the UK, new statistics from the DfT reveal. However, a further 3,200 are in the pipeline.

The On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS) was launched in 2017, offering to fund up to 75% of the capital costs of installing charging devices. The aim was to ensure that people without access to private off-street parking – such as residents in flats or terraced...
