The Government has been told to change its mechanism for rewarding funds for improvements to infrastructure aimed at levelling up England’s towns.
The National Infrastructure Commission (NIC) criticises the “multiple ring-fenced pots of money” which councils must compete for to get funding. It wants councils to have the power to deliver their own infrastructure strategies with five-year devolved budgets.
