The sharp rise in the use of private scooters is a cause for concern, believes Thomas Ableman, director of innovation at Transport for London. Although e-scooters are available for sale to private owners, they are illegal to ride on roads or pavements, since they do not conform to vehicle regulations.
The Metropolitan Police has seized more than 3,000 e-scooters this year, Ableman said at the Local Transport Summit.
