Uber’s ‘unlawful’ business model leaves PHV future in doubt

The future plans of ride-hailing company Uber and other app-based hire services are again in doubt after the High Court last week decided its business model was unlawful. 

The case was brought by Uber after Supreme Court judges ruled at a hearing in February that drivers should be treated as employees and not contractors, which means they are entitled to benefits such as sick pay and the minimum wage.
