Rise in leisure travel spearheads rail revival

The reduction in commuting and increase in leisure travel by rail is expected to increase sales for retailers at stations, Network Rail believes.

According to minutes of Network Rail’s January board meeting, the board noted: “The passenger profile at some stations was changing. Leisure travellers generally spent longer in stations and therefore bought more from retail outlets. The type of outlet and services they wanted at stations was different to what commuters...
