Greater Manchester leaders agree non-charging category B Clean Air Zone

Class B CAZ plan seeks to encourage shift to electric vehicles while recognising impacts of rising costs and pandemic on businesses

All councils in Greater Manchester have endorsed a scheme which proposes scrapping plans to charge the drivers of polluting vehicles. Instead, it is proposed to offer financial incentives for motorists to switch to electric vehicles. Greater Manchester council leaders have agreed to a non-charging category B Clean Air Zone.

The 10 Greater Manchester local authorities have been directed by government to bring NO2 air pollution within legal limits as soon as possible and by 2026 at the latest....
