Welsh Government to 'develop strategies' after Menai Bridge closes

The Welsh Government is considering possible methods of improving resilience on the A55 Britannia Bridge after the nearby Menai Suspension Bridge was closed without warning on Friday 21 October.

The historic bridge, designed by Thomas Telford, carries the only walking and cycling routes between Anglesey and the mainland. A 7.5-tonne weight restriction introduced in June enforced a lengthy detour for bus services between Anglesey and Bangor, followed by service reductions.
