The A249 bridge over the Swale between north Kent and the Isle of Sheppey opens this week. The high-level bridge is part of the 30-year design, build, finance and operate A249 Iwade to Queenborough improvement and provides an alternative to the lifting bridge which caused traffic delays when raised to allow shipping to pass through. The old bridge, which carries the railway line to Queenborough and Sheerness-on-sea stations, will remain open for cyclists and pedestrians and local traffic....
