Pete Dyson has been appointed the new Bicycle Mayor Of Bath, a two-year independent position coordinated by a global not-for-profit BYCS.
Dyson works as a behavioural scientist at the University of Bath and last year published a book entitled Transport For Humans, which argues for how transport can become more people-friendly.
He said: “For the next two years, I’ll be among roughly 120 bicycle mayors in cities around the world. We have the dual responsibility to enable and encourage cycle in our local cities, while collaborating to spread ideas, challenges and leadership throughout the network.”
Dyson said he will be exploring ways to make e-bikes and e-cargo bikes available to try out, rent and purchase, “especially to make them affordable, inclusive and adaptable for more people”.
He pointed out how Kidical Mass, family-friendly bike rides across Bath, play an important role introducing children and young people to cycle.
“To make Bath more cycle friendly, I’ll champion the dozens of ‘small but big’ improvements we can make to road and pavement design, cycle storage, bike security, signage, local clubs and more,” he said. “Working together, Bath can become an even better place for people to use bicycles.”
