Analysis finds ‘astonishing’ drop in speed in week after Welsh 20mph limit introduced

The introduction of 20mph as the default speed limit in Wales has had an “astonishing” impact, reducing speeds by 2.9mph, “far greater than many would have predicted”, according to a new report by Agilysis.

The consultancy analysed average speeds along two 2.5km routes in Cardiff and Wrexham during the first week after the start of the 20mph default limit. Analysis using connected vehicle GPS data found a median speed of 22.7mph, which is “significantly lower than...
