A national campaign has been launched to help schools introduce a range of zero carbon measures. A new Climate Action Advisor team will visit schools, colleges and nurseries across England to help them embed measures through “infrastructure, culture and curriculum” as part of the Let's Go Zero campaign.

The first team of advisors will visit schools in the Midlands, with more experts visiting the South East, South West and London in April, and Yorkshire and Humberside, Anglia, North West, and North East by August 2024.

The advisors will offer guidance on creating more energy-efficient buildings and on-site energy generation, improved green spaces, and reduced waste.

The Let’s Go Zero campaign is coordinated by climate solutions charity Ashden and supported by a coalition of organisations including Green Future Investments Limited, SUSTRANS, World Wildlife Fund, the Soil Association, OVO Foundation and IKEA.

It is supported by several local authorities including Manchester City Council, Suffolk County Council, Herefordshire County Council, Kent Count Council, Warrington Borough Council, Plymouth City Council and the London Borough of Waltham Forest.

The Climate Action Advisors are funded through a £10m partnership between Green Future Investments Ltd and Let’s Go Zero.

Head of Let’s Go Zero, Alex Green, said: “The Government appears to be back-peddling on climate initiatives to transition away from fossil fuels, yet it’s not stopping schools from taking action. Schools across the UK are leading the way by showing their intent and ambition to reach zero carbon by signing up to Let’s Go Zero.

“There are now over 2,500 schools, colleges and nurseries signed up to the Let’s Go Zero campaign, which supports schools to reach zero carbon by 2030. This proves to Government that demand for a zero-carbon society is growing day by day.”
