Tim Evans, founder and chief executive of 3ti Energy Hubs, has died after a short illness.

Evans passed away on 12 March surrounded by his family.

Evans founded 3ti Energy Hubs in 2019 after a long career in the renewable energy sector. Leatherhead-based 3ti is a designer, installer, funder and operator of solar car parks that integrate local mains electricity with solar power, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and EV chargepoints.

The 3ti team has installed solar car parks for clients such as Bentley Motors in Crewe, JP Morgan Chase in Bournemouth, the Silverstone race track, the NHS and Ministry of Defence.

The company won an EVolution trophy at the British Parking Awards for its innovative Papilio3 solar car park system.

Ben Marchant, 3ti’s chief operating officer, is now acting as interim chief executive.

'Leaving something better behind'

Ben Marchant pays tribute to Tim Evans

Tim’s departure marks not only the loss of a visionary leader but also a cherished family member and friend. He leaves behind a legacy that is deeply interwoven with his passion for renewable energy and his unwavering commitment to making the world a better place.

Tim will be remembered for his dedication, tenacity and entrepreneurial spirit. He was driven by a desire to confront the challenges of climate change head-on. His belief in the power of renewable energy to transform our world for the better is embodied in 3ti’s motto to ‘Leave something better behind’.

Tim was a tenacious character, known for his quick and mischievous wit, caring nature and the ability to inspire those around him with his passion and authenticity. His contributions on public platforms (known on LBC as ‘Tim from Leatherhead’) and through his active involvement in movements and organisations advocating for sustainability, equality and progress, Tim has left an indelible mark on the energy industry, society, his many local communities and every one of us that has had the privilege of knowing him.

As we mourn the loss of Tim, we also celebrate his incredible achievements and the impact he made. Under Tim’s vision and leadership, 3ti has emerged as a leader in the renewable energy, battery storage and EV charging sectors.

His determination has been instrumental in guiding the company through the generation of over eight gigawatt-hours of solar power – saving £2m for our customers in energy costs and avoiding carbon emissions equivalent to planting over 32,000 trees – delivering more than 11,000 EV charging sessions, winning six industry awards in the last 18 months and leading a pioneering, government funded V2X research & development project.

Tim’s legacy will always inspire us as we remain dedicated to advancing his mission – to drive innovation in renewable energy, battery storage and electric vehicle charging to achieve net zero faster.

As we reflect on 3ti’s history and look to the future, we are reminded of Tim’s words on our fifth anniversary – ‘It feels like we’re just getting started.’

We extend our deepest sympathies to Tim’s family – his mother, sons, sisters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and wider family – and to everyone whose life was touched by his presence.

There will be a Service of Remembrance to celebrate Tim’s remarkable achievements and reflect on the legacy and mission he leaves behind that brought joy and purpose to so many.

Thank you, Tim, for your leadership, your passion, your laughter, your friendship and your legacy. You will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
